Top Ten Egyptian Attractions

Posted in Travel on December 31st, 2009
Since ages gone, Egypt has attracted millions of travelers, fun-lovers and globetrotters towards the mysterious Nile Valley. Widely known for its exciting lifestyle, cultural heritage, wonderful landmarks, and breathtaking landscape, Egypt has served as the land of several kings and emperors of historical importance. Be it a romantic cruise across the Nile, exploring the hot and happening nightlife, or a cultural show at the grand opera, Egypt has it all (and much more) to make your tour unforgettable.

Egypt is full of surprises, and therefore it is difficult to point out which are the best ones. However, based on tourist popularity, here’s a list of the top ten Egyptian attractions. Egypt has excellent facilities to cater to its tourists from all across the globe every year.

• The Egyptian Pyramids: Over 80 pyramids, situated along the banks of the Nile, preserve the mummies of the ancient Egyptian rulers. These pyramids were built over a long period of time with thousands of workers slaving away day and night to complete these wonderful structures. The Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx are two of the most famous among these. With a height of 481 feet, the Pyramid of Giza is called the ‘Great Pyramid’ of Egypt.

• Cairo: The capital of Egypt offers you one of the world’s biggest markets known as Khan al-Khalli, selling exotic perfumes, clothes and much more. The Egyptian Museum of Antiquities is sure to amaze you with its antique collection housed in 107 halls, the most popular being the Tutankhamen gallery.

• Abu Simbel: Check out the four colossal statues of Ramses II, standing 20 m high. These statues stand at the entrance of the place.

• Karnak Temples: Several small and three major temples together attract thousands of tourists to the Karnak Temple. It is believed to have taken almost 1300 years to complete these temples. The Temple of Amun is the most famous among all the others.

• Siwa Qasis: The scenic beauty of this place is one of the most outstanding sights you will see in Egypt. Situated 60 feet below sea level, the place boasts olives and dates. Until lately, the oasis at Siwa Qasis was not accessible, a fact that has contributed to its popularity.

• Valley of the Kings: Situated in Thebes, West of the Nile, the Valley of Kings has 62 tombs of its Pharaohs. The valley is divided into East and West regions. Most of the tombs of the kings are found in the East region.

• Sharm-El-Sheikh: The white Lagoon, the Tiran Island, the Na’ama Bay, the Terrazzina Beach and the Sinai Mountains are some of the major attractions of Sharm-El-Sheikh.

• Alexandria: The Roman Amphitheatre contributes to Alexandria’s enormous popularity. The Alexandria National Museum, Pompey’s Pillar and the palace of King Farouk also call for a visit.

• Nubian Museum of Aswan: Some of the most amazing collections of archeological excavations are kept here.

• Luxor Temple: Situated in the city of hundred gates, Thebes, the temples welcome you with their grandeur and magnificence of architecture. The Great Hypostle Hall is one of the most popular parts of these temples.

Top 10 things to do in Sharm-el-Sheikh

Diving

Whether it’s your first time to breathe underwater or you’re an experienced diver, Scuba Diving is definitely the number one activity in Sharm el Sheik. Wreck, Tech, drift or fish – there is an experience waiting for you.  If you have never tried diving, give it a shot and add a little something new to your holiday plans.

Golf

Imagine yourself surrounded by the Sinai Mountains and the glorious Red Sea, leaning over the ball on the eighteenth hole, anticipating a cold beer on the 19th and watching the sun go down. Sharm el Sheik hosts a beautiful 18-hole golf course situated at the Movenpick Golf.  The course is 6021 yards and graded as a par 72. Outside guests are welcome; however, we recommend a reservation. Golf lessons available upon request and karts can be rented in the golf shop. If you just want to hit a few balls – the driving range is waiting for you.

Water Skiing or Wakeboarding

If your fancy is more above the waves than under, check out the opportunities for water skiing or wakeboarding.  Ten kilometers south of Na’ama Bay is Sharm el Maya is a protected bay with the perfect conditions for skiing. Give wakeboarding a try for fun. You can even take a lesson. Try your luck and attempt to jump through the wake turning 80 degrees. Sun & Fun are located on the beach at Iberotel Palace hotel. Banana rides and inter-tube rides are also available.

Bungee catapult

Not for the faint hearted, but still ten minutes of guaranteed adrenalin pumping action – plus an amazing view. The giant catapult is situated in the Na’ama Bay parking lot next to the Na’ama Bay Hotel.  It’s very simple; you are strapped into a seat in an open sphere cage, which is attached to two elastic cables. 3, 2, 1 and blast off, you are bungeed skywards.

Go Kart Racing

If you feel the need for speed, but not of the skyward variety, then check out go karting.  It’s not just for kids! Ghibli Raceway is a professional go-kart center, with four challenging circuits in one, built to FIA standards. As a competitor you are given racing overalls, a cotton balaclava and a full-face helmet. The raceway is situated on the airport road just outside Na’ama Bay next to Sofitel and the Hyatt hotel.

Horseback Riding

If you are an early bird and love horses, then take the opportunity to go on a sunrise trip out in the desert or along the beach. There are a couple of stables offering excursion rides. There is nothing nicer than being on horseback in the peaceful desert at dawn, while it is still cool and enjoyable.  If dawn is not your thing then there are also sunset rides. Just be honest and let the guide know if you are a novice or experienced, so you are ensured a suitable horse and pace. Concorde Hotel and Sofitel just outside Na’ama Bay have a well run and profession operations and the horses are well looked after. Most rides vary from one to two hours.

Quad runners

Taking a cruise on a quad runner is a fun, fast activity and a great way of getting out into the desert. There are quite a few companies offering these rides and most of them can be found on the desert side of the main road running through Na’ama Bay.  There are sunrise and sunset trips as well as daylong excursions (be careful of the day temps. in the summer months). Whatever time you decide to become a desert biker then a good tip is to bring a “Kofeya” or headdress as there is a lot of dust and sand driven up by the quads and it can be a bit rough on the hair, face and eyes.

Ice Skating

Believe it or not there is an ice rink in Sharm el Sheik. It is real ice, so it’s really cool, making it a pleasant way to escape the heat during the day. There is also a snack bar and a few seating areas for you to rest. The rink is situated in the sporting area of the Concorde Hotel on the airport road north of Na’ama bay.

Bowling Camel riding, Hobby-Cats, Paragliding, Stargazing and much more

For number ten on our list there are a multitude of things. There is so much packed into this ten km strip of coastline that our list could be endless.

Top ten places to visit in Egypt : Cheap flight to Egypt

Posted in Destinations on December 30th, 2009
Few nations in the world rouse such worldwide mystique and awe as Egypt. An ancient country, Egypt has been a unified state for 5,000 years. While most other nations were still hunting and gathering and learning to build huts, Ancient Egypt perfected one of the most colossal structures of all time – the Pyramids of Giza – and rose out of the constant passage of time by establishing something truly amazing. There’s no other place in the world that holds more mystery than the country of Egypt. The smell of the mysticism of the ancient Egyptians still lingers over the place. This ancient atmosphere seems to fill its every nook and cranny with secrets yet untold.

1-Pyramids of Giza : And perhaps there is nothing more mysterious, and more worthy of seeing in Egypt than the esteemed Great Pyramids of Giza. These are the pyramids of Khufu, Kafhre, and Menkaura. These perfectly shaped structures leaves everyone in awe and in wonder about how exactly they were made, considering that the ancient Egyptians had no advanced technology to work with.

2-Sphinx : And of course, if you’re going to go to the Great Pyramids, then you might as well go to the Sphinx. This is one of the most mysterious structures in Egypt. Even now, archeologists are still arguing about its origin and its purpose, making it the subject of the famous phrase, “the Riddle of the Sphinx.”

3-Abu Simbel : Most temples of antiquity are eventually physically altered, defiled or destroyed. This was not the fate of Abu Simbel because encroaching sands soon buried its lower half. It lay forgotten for millennia. Abu Simbel wasn’t rediscovered and exposed until about 200 years ago. Before little more of two years BBC carried out research between TV spectators for the 50 places which every must see while is alive. Abu Simbel was one of this places. It is set of two temples near the border of Egypt with Sudan. The larger one is Ra and Amun. The smaller temple is dedicated to the goddess Hathor, the goddess of love and beauty and also to his favorite wife – Nefertary. The facade of greater temple is 33 meters high and 38 meters broad. There is a guarded by four statues, each of which is 20 meters high. They were sculpted directly from the rock. It was constructed for the pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC. Abu Simbel is the most magnificent monuments in the world. During the salvage operation in 1964-1968 the two temples were dismantled and raised around 6o meters up the sandstone cliff where they had been built more 3,000 years before.

4-Cairo : And of course, if you really want to immerse yourself in Egyptian culture, it would be best for you to go to the capital city, Cairo. The place is teeming with bazaars and restaurants where you can buy your taste of Egyptian culture. It’s surely not a place to miss.

5-Temples of Karnak : The temples at Karnak are one of the greatest architectural achievements besides the Pyramid. Located a few kilometers north of Luxor, it spreads on approximately 250 acres. This is the largest religious complex in the world. The construction continued over an elongated period of thousand years and was contributed by more than thirty Pharaoh. The temple of Amun is the centerpiece of the site which is surrounded by a multitude of giant columns, obelisk, pylons and many statues.

What better way to experience ancient Egypt than to visit the very place where they worshipped their gods. The Temples of Karnak is the biggest site for Egyptian worship. It has a monument to just about every god in the Theban religion.

6-The Nile River : And of course, you can’t miss out on the famous Nile River. It is, after all, what nourished Egypt and turned it into the place of wonder that it is. In fact, what’s great about visiting the Nile is that you can take a Felucca and sail down the legendary river, taking in the sights of the city and the sunset.

7-Valley of the Kings : The Valley of the Kings or Biban El Moluk is the place where Egypt’s most esteemed pharaohs were buried. This place is teeming with mummies and undiscovered treasures. In fact, this is the place where archeologists found one of the most famous mummies of all time – Tutankhamun.

8-Egyptian Museum : Of course, since it would be unwise to leave the Egyptian treasures in the tombs they were found in, the archeologists put them in the Egyptian museum where they would be put under high security. If you want to learn about Egypt, this is the best place to start. There’s no other place with a higher concentration of Egyptian artifacts, and you can even follow the tour so that you can be oriented with the history of each of the artifacts.

9-Siwa Oasis : Egypt isn’t all about temples and pyramids, there’s a place where you can just let loose and have fun – the Siwa Oasis. Here, you can take a swim in the cool waters to ward off the desert heat. It is rumored that Alexander stopped here during his great conquest.

10-Necropolis of Sakkarah : And indeed, you can’t miss something as intriguing as a ‘Necropolis’ or, if translated, a City of the Dead. Here, you will find the less popular pyramids of Egypt, the step pyramids. However, though they are less popular than the great pyramids, they’re still suffused with great history and culture.
